Big fairs can turn a family day into a logistics project. Parking, crowds, long walks, overheated kids, and “just one more ride” can wear everyone down before the funnel cake shows up. And even though the LA County Fair moved seasons to avoid extra hot fall temps, it's still too easy to get overheated between rides and corndogs. That's why our family pro tip is making the trek to Ventura County for its annual summer fair.

1. The Ventura County Fair feels more manageable with kids
LA and Orange County fairs are popular for a reason. They are big, busy, and packed with things to do. That can be fun, but it can also mean more walking, more waiting, and more chances for kids to get tired, overstimulated, or overheated.
The Ventura County Fair has a smaller, more approachable feel. Parents can still find the classic fair mix, rides, games, animals, food, and live entertainment, but the day tends to feel less like a marathon.
That matters when the group includes toddlers, grandparents, or kids with different energy levels.
A good family fair does not need to be the biggest one. It needs to be the one everyone can enjoy.

2. The beachside location is a real parent perk
Ventura’s fairgrounds sit near the coast, which gives the whole visit a different feel. Instead of a day built only around rides and crowds, families can pair the fair with ocean air, a walk near the beach, or a slower start before entering the gates.
That coastal setting can also make the fair feel more comfortable than inland fairgrounds on hot summer days. No fair is guaranteed to be cool, and parents should still pack water, hats, and sunscreen. Still, Ventura’s location gives it an edge when the goal is a family outing that feels fun rather than exhausting.
For parents comparing the Ventura County Fair over LA or Orange County Fair, this is one of the biggest differences. The setting adds breathing room.

3. It gives families the classic fair experience without the overload
The best fair memories are usually simple. A first carousel ride. A blue ribbon pumpkin. A sticky dessert shared at a picnic table. A kid proudly winning a small stuffed animal.
Ventura delivers that classic county fair feeling without making the day revolve around scale. Parents do not have to chase every attraction to make the trip worthwhile. The fair works well as a half-day outing, an after-nap visit, or an evening trip for rides and food.
LA and Orange County can be great for families who want a large event with more choices. But more choices can also mean more negotiation, more spending, and more walking. Ventura keeps the focus on the parts many kids remember most.

The better fair is the one that fits the day
Parents do not need to avoid LA or Orange County forever. Those fairs have plenty to offer. But when the goal is a calmer, easier, more kid-friendly fair day, Ventura is hard to beat.
Choose Ventura when you want the animals, rides, food, and lights, with fewer headaches around the edges. That is often the difference between surviving a fair day and actually enjoying it.
